Who is Mon Laferte?

Norma Monserrat Bustamante Laferte is a Chilean singer, songwriter and actress, known professionally as Mon Laferte. Laferte was born on May 2 1983 in Villa Del Mar Chile. She started her career of singer at the age of 9. Laferte began playing in smalls bars of her country with the name “Monserrat Bustamante”. She participated in the reality show “Rojo Fama Contrafama” in 2003. The same year she released her debut album  “La chica de Rojo” the album was released on July 12 2003. Some of the hits included in the album are “Corazon Bandido”, “Yo sin tu amor”, “Dos locos” and “Maldita Ignorancia”. The album was number one in Chile and was certificated Platinum and Gold one month after its release.

In 2007 Laferte decided to start a new chapter in her musical career, she moved to Mexico city, where she began singing in night clubs. More people became familiar with her music, she also recorded cover songs from different artists that year. Unfortunately in 2009  Mon was diagnosticated with thyroid cancer. She thought that she needed to start over with a new stage name she introduced her new name “Mon Laferte”, expressing a new beginning for her. Laferte decided to scrap the album she was recording in 2009 . Two years later she returned with her second studio album titled “Desechable”, the album was published independently by Laferte after two years of recording in Mexico.
